Yellow cooker hood splashback: a touch of sunshine
A yellow cooker hood splashback warms up a north-facing kitchen or a white kitchen that feels a little cold. Mustard or saffron are easy to live with day to day; lemon yellow is more graphic. 6 mm toughened glass withstands the heat of all hob types, provided you keep 10 cm between a gas flame and the glass.
Yellow back-painted glass kitchen splashback
Yellow is the colour of light: as a splashback, it livens up a dark kitchen, warms up a north-facing room and adds zing to white, grey or wooden units. Lemon yellow or traffic yellow creates a pop, graphic style; softer mustard, ochre or saffron yellow suits vintage, country or Mediterranean kitchens.
Here is a selection of possible shades for your yellow back-painted glass: lemon yellow, sulphur yellow, canary yellow, chick yellow, straw yellow, maize yellow, melon yellow, saffron yellow, golden yellow, mustard yellow, yellow ochre, sand yellow, vanilla yellow, pastel yellow, butter yellow.
Why choose a yellow back-painted glass splashback?
The splashback is made of toughened glass: around five times stronger than ordinary glass, it withstands a temperature difference of around 200 °C and is suitable behind a hob. The yellow paint, applied to the back of the glass and protected by an anti-shatter film, does not fade with heat or over time. The smooth, non-porous surface wipes clean in seconds, with no grout lines where grease can build up.
Design your made-to-measure yellow splashback
Choose the shape, dimensions and thickness of your kitchen splashback: 6 mm behind a hob, 12 mm minimum for a worktop. Then position the sockets, switches and holes, choose the shape of the corners, then the finish of the glass, gloss or matt. For a yellow true to the shade you have chosen, go for low-iron glass.

Frequently asked questions about yellow splashbacks and cooker hood splashbacks
Which yellow should I choose for a kitchen splashback?
A bright yellow (RAL 1018, RAL 1003) creates a pop style, best kept to a medium-sized area or a cooker hood splashback. Warm yellows, maize RAL 1006, broom RAL 1032, ochre or mustard, blend in more easily. Pale yellows, vanilla or butter, brighten the room while remaining discreet.
Why use low-iron glass for yellow back-painted glass?
Yellow is the colour most affected by the green tint of clear glass: behind standard glass, it tends towards lime. Low-iron glass, almost colourless, keeps the yellow clean and bright.
Is a yellow cooker hood splashback heat-resistant?
Yes: the yellow cooker hood splashback is made of toughened glass, which can withstand a temperature difference of around 200 °C. It is suitable for induction, ceramic and gas hobs, with 10 to 15 cm clearance from the flame.
Which colours go with a yellow splashback?
Yellow contrasts with anthracite grey and black, is brightened by white, and is complemented by teal or navy blue. Natural wood makes it even warmer. Avoid too many bright colours around it so that the overall look stays clear.
Which standards does the yellow splashback meet?
The glass is toughened to standard EN 12150: more resistant to impacts and heat, it breaks without sharp shards. The yellow paint falls under standard EN 16477 for painted glass for indoor use, and a safety film protects it on the back.
Does a yellow splashback age well?
Yes, because the colour never comes into contact with air, grease or cleaning products: it stays behind the glass. For a kitchen that needs to last, a soft yellow or ochre goes out of fashion less quickly than a neon yellow.
