        Glass desk tops

A glass desk top provides a stable, modern work surface. Its transparency makes it easy to integrate into different professional or home spaces. It gives you a neat, durable workstation that is easy to clean, while keeping the organisation of your desk clearly visible.

        Protective glass desk tops

A protective glass top is placed on an existing desk to preserve its surface. It protects against scratches, stains and rubbing while keeping the furniture's original look. Easy to install and clean, it is a durable solution for extending the life of a desk used every day. Clear, smoked or frosted glass desk tops at the best price are at PlakGlass.

        Desk top sizes

Common desk sizes vary according to use, with lengths generally between 120 and 180 cm and depths of 60 to 80 cm. These sizes can take a top, a desk overlay or a protective sheet without any special adaptation. PlakGlass makes your top to measure.

The benefits of toughened glass for a desk top

A toughened glass desk top is very strong and provides a flat work surface, useful for writing and computer equipment. It does not warp over time and withstands the heat given off by devices. It is easy to clean, as it does not absorb ink or everyday products.

This type of top is unaffected by moisture and remains stable even under heavy use. It also keeps documents placed underneath, such as a calendar or notes, visible. Glass fits most desk frames and does not interfere with magnetic accessories or light fixing systems.

All this makes it a practical solution for a long-lasting workstation that is simple to use and easy to maintain.

        Frosted glass desk tops

A frosted glass desk top offers a matt surface that reduces direct glare and makes reading easier, both on screen and on paper. This type of glass diffuses light without dazzle, so you can work in a more even environment without changing your existing layout.

Tinted glass desk tops (black, grey)

A tinted glass desk top, in black or grey, limits the view of what is beneath the surface and gives the work surface a more continuous appearance. The tint reduces the transparency of the glass while retaining the rigidity and stability needed for daily use.

Frequently asked questions about glass desk tops

What glass thickness should I choose for a desk top?

For a desk overlay placed on an existing top (protection, desk pad), 4 to 6 mm is enough. For a desk top resting directly on legs or trestles, allow 10 mm, 12 mm for a large desk or widely spaced supports, and 15 to 19 mm for an executive desk or a cantilevered top.

Can a toughened glass desk top hold a monitor and a computer?

Yes, if the thickness suits the spacing of the supports. Toughened glass (safety glass, standard EN 12150) is around five times stronger than ordinary glass and bears the weight and heat of monitors, computers and lamps without warping. We recommend placing the top on clear pads or bumpers and avoiding point impacts on the edges.

Can a glass desk top have a cable grommet hole or notches?

Yes: add a hole (cable grommet) or a notch wherever you want in the configurator. All cut-outs are made before toughening, as toughened glass cannot be drilled afterwards. The configurator checks the minimum distances from the edges.

Clear or frosted glass for a desk: which should I choose?

Frosted glass is often the most comfortable to work on: its matt surface reduces reflections from lighting, makes fingerprints less visible and lets most optical mice work without a mat. Clear glass (clear or low-iron) shows off wood or the desk frame and lets you see documents slipped underneath; you will need a mouse mat. Tinted grey or black glass gives a more uniform work surface.

How do I fit a glass top on an existing desk?

A glass desk top is simply laid flat, with no fixings: place small clear non-slip pads between the desk and the glass to stop it sliding and protect the wood. Clean the top before fitting. Flat polished edges are not sharp, and the corners can be rounded or clipped in the configurator for extra comfort.
