“The only small downside I'd mention is the range of colours offered. When ordering, I put my phone on the worktop to find the most suitable colour. In the end, it's not quite the result I was expecting, but it's very close.”

Made-to-measure coloured toughened enamelled glass
Toughened enamelled glass is first processed, then coloured enamels are applied to the back face of the glass before the final stage: firing in the toughening furnace. The colour then fuses with the glass, which becomes opaque (vitrified). The enamels we use for enamelled glass contain neither lead nor cadmium.
Enamelled glass is produced by printing onto the glass with enamel inks that are fired during toughening: this is what makes these prints virtually indestructible. The finish is opaque in dark colours, with an opacity of +/- 90% in light colours.
White enamelled glass is typically found in laboratories or as protective panels. Black enamelled glass is mainly used in interior design and furniture. Plakglass offers coloured enamelled glass in most colours of the RAL colour chart.
Toughened enamelled glass is particularly recommended for outdoor use, in damp environments and as a table top, worktop or wall protection. Order your enamelled glass online and have it delivered straight to your home.
For use as a splashback, or if your glass is bonded directly to the wall, you need to configure a back-painted glass splashback.
Enamelled glass behind or under a wood or pellet stove
Enamelled glass acts as a heat shield on the wall behind the stove or as floor protection placed under the stove. Wall-mounted enamelled glass, backed with insulation, reduces radiant heat on the wall.
Available in a wide choice of colours, enamelled glass lets you clad walls while blending perfectly into the decor of the room where it is installed.

Frequently asked questions
What thickness should I choose for an enamelled glass worktop?
An enamelled glass worktop should be 12 or 15 millimetres thick.
Can a hob or sink be fitted into a glass worktop?
Yes, internal cut-out options let you fit a hob, an inset or undermount sink, or a mixer tap. In that case, seals must be provided between them and the worktop. Enamelled glass is recommended for worktops.
How do I fit an undermount sink to an enamelled glass worktop?
Please note: the sink must rest on a lower surface or on battens, as the adhesive only serves to seal the assembly.
What standard does Plakglass enamelled glass meet?
Enamelled glass is a toughened safety glass: the enamel is fired into the glass during thermal toughening, carried out in accordance with standard EN 12150. Toughened glass is around five times more impact-resistant than ordinary glass and, if it breaks, it shatters into small, blunt fragments.
