Made-to-measure black glass splashbacks

Black glass splashbacks
A black splashback gives the kitchen a real visual signature. Its deep shade highlights the lines of the units and worktop, with a strong presence that never overwhelms the space. A black glass splashback is toughened glass painted on the back: glossy like a dark mirror, or matt and velvety.
Fitted between the worktop and the wall units, behind the sink or the hob, it protects the walls of your kitchen.

Black kitchen splashbacks
Designed to stand up to everyday use, a black glass splashback protects kitchen walls from splashes, grease and heat. Its uniform surface is easy to clean and keeps its smart appearance over time, even in the busiest kitchens. A matt black splashback is made by painting frosted glass. Black gives the impression of a high-end kitchen and is reminiscent of designer interiors.
Why choose a black glass splashback?
Thanks to its intense colour, a black glass splashback fits into modern kitchens as well as warmer schemes combining wood, stone or stainless steel. Paired with well-planned lighting, it creates a play of contrasts that enhances the whole kitchen.
Choosing a made-to-measure black glass kitchen splashback means choosing a feature that is attractive, practical and durable: easy to clean, perfectly hygienic and heat-resistant. Its gloss or satin finish brings depth and modernity, and gives the kitchen a strong identity.
How do I clean a black glass splashback?
Like any dark surface, a black splashback may show a few marks if it is not cleaned regularly. A soft cloth lightly dampened with lukewarm water removes most marks; then wipe with a dry microfibre cloth to keep the colour even, without smears. For more stubborn stains, use a mild non-abrasive cleaner. Avoid harsh products, scouring powders and abrasive sponges: they could dull or scratch the surface.
Design your black kitchen splashback
Create your own made-to-measure black splashback in a few clicks. Choose the shape, length, height and thickness, with a minimum of 6 mm for a splashback fitted behind a cooking appliance. For a worktop, choose at least 12 mm. Then select the cut-outs you need for a power socket or lighting, the corner shape and the glass finish, gloss or matt.
Made to the dimensions you specify, the splashback covers exactly the area to be protected and takes account of cut-outs and layout constraints, for easy installation. For your safety, all our glass splashbacks are supplied with an anti-shatter film on the back of the glass, which must not be removed.

Frequently asked questions about black splashbacks
Which black should I choose for a black glass splashback?
Jet black RAL 9005 is the benchmark: the deepest and most popular. Graphite black RAL 9011 and traffic black RAL 9017 have very slight undertones; Pantone blacks offer warmer or cooler blacks. Black, the most popular colour along with white, is part of the Plakglass selection: it is offered at a better price than other shades.
Gloss or matt black splashback?
In gloss, a black splashback creates a deep mirror effect that makes the room look bigger, but shows drips and fingerprints more. In matt, on frosted glass, it offers a velvety, reflection-free look that hides marks better.
Is a black glass splashback suitable for a small kitchen?
Yes, as long as the worktop is well lit: an LED strip under the wall units reflects in gloss black and adds depth. Paired with light unit doors, a black splashback structures the space without making it darker.
How can I avoid marks on a black splashback?
Clean with a slightly damp microfibre cloth, then wipe with a dry cloth to avoid smears. Never use scouring powders or abrasive sponges. If you are worried about marks, go for the matt finish.
Is a black splashback made of safety glass?
Yes: it is made of glass toughened to standard EN 12150, around five times stronger than ordinary glass, and shatters into small, blunt fragments. The film bonded to the back holds the fragments; standard EN 16477 covers painted glass for interior use.
Which worktop goes with a black splashback?
Light wood or oak creates a warm contrast, white a graphic look, stone or concrete an industrial style. A black worktop with a black splashback forms a very striking design block, best kept for bright kitchens.
