Made-to-measure toughened glass shower screen in a bathroom

Toughened glass and anti-limescale glass shower screens

For your bathroom, Plakglass makes your made-to-measure shower screen in toughened glass: a sturdy shower panel, built to last and to withstand daily use. Walk-in shower, fixed panel, corner screen or bath screen: the glass is cut to the millimetre, up to 2900 mm high.

For easier cleaning, choose the anti-limescale option: treated on one face, the screen holds far less limescale and fewer water marks. For more privacy, the screen is also available in tinted or frosted glass.

      • Glass: clear, low-iron, anti-limescale, frosted, tinted grey, bronze, black, green or blue
      • Thicknesses: 6, 8 or 10 mm, with 8 mm the most popular
      • Edges: flat polished, not sharp
      • Holes and notches: positioned in the configurator, made before toughening
      • Easy fitting: optional U-channel profiles and stabilising bar, for a complete fixed shower kit

Fixed shower kit: U-channel profiles and stabilising bar

To fit your screen without drilling the glass, add the mounting accessories in the configurator: along with the glass, you receive a complete fixed shower screen kit, ready to install.

        • Wall U-channel: fixed to the wall along the full height, it takes the edge of the screen. The screen slots in and is wedged with the seals supplied, without drilling the glass.
        • Floor U-channel: fixed to the floor or to the shower tray, it holds the bottom of the screen and guides water back into the shower.
        • Stabilising bar: this support bar connects the top of the screen to the wall. Essential for a fixed walk-in screen, it eliminates vibration and keeps the screen perfectly plumb.

The profiles and bar come in chrome, matt black and brushed stainless steel, to match your taps and fittings. Their length is chosen according to the dimensions of your screen, and their price is added to that of the glass.

        Anti-limescale shower screens: easier cleaning

The anti-limescale treatment, applied to one face of the glass, stops water, limescale and soap residue from sticking. A simple rinse or a quick pass with a squeegee keeps the screen clean: a real advantage in hard water areas and for heavily used showers.

The treated face is the one exposed to water, inside the shower; you choose it in the configurator. The option is available in 6, 8 and 10 mm clear glass and in 8 and 10 mm low-iron glass.

Smoked glass shower screens: grey, bronze, black, blue or green

Tinted glass adds character to the bathroom: it plays with transparency while offering discreet privacy, filters light and makes water marks less visible. It is just as strong as clear glass.

A black, grey or bronze smoked screen sets off black profiles and taps, and goes well with wood, stone or polished concrete.

Frosted glass shower screens: light and privacy

Satin-finish frosted glass lets light through without letting anyone see through it. It is the ideal choice for a shared bathroom, a corner shower or an en-suite open to a bedroom. Its matt finish goes well with light wood, white and black or aluminium profiles.

A made-to-measure shower panel, ready to fit

Each screen is cut to your dimensions, finished with polished edges, then toughened: around five times stronger than ordinary glazing. It is suitable for shower trays and baths alike, as a fixed installation. The clear and low-iron versions let light flow through the whole room.

You can order the glass on its own, or with the U-channel profiles and stabilising bar for a complete fixed screen. For a shower with a hinged or pivot door, configure a complete shower screen kit with our partner.

        Design tip

Play with contrasts: clear glass with a black profile gives a modern look, and a clear glass walk-in screen visually extends the room. In a small bathroom, low-iron glass maximises brightness. Light wood, natural stone or brushed metal go well with glass for a bright, timeless space.

Frequently asked questions about made-to-measure shower screens

How do I choose my shower screen?

Start from the layout of your bathroom: walk-in shower, corner screen, recess or bath screen. Then choose the glass according to the look and the level of upkeep you want: anti-limescale for a heavily used shower, frosted for privacy, tinted for style, clear or low-iron for light.

        What is the anti-limescale treatment?

An invisible coating applied to one face of the glass that stops limescale, minerals in the water and soap residue from sticking. Water marks and scale build up far less, and the screen can be cleaned with a simple rinse.

Can I order just the shower glass panel?

Yes: you configure the glass on its own, to your measurements, with its holes and notches. It is delivered ready to fit, with polished, non-sharp edges. The profiles and stabilising bar remain optional.

What thickness for a shower screen?

6, 8 or 10 mm. 8 mm is the most popular for its balance of rigidity and weight; 10 mm suits large screens and frameless screens.

How do I fix a fixed shower screen?

The screen slots into a U-channel fixed to the wall, and to the floor if necessary, and is wedged with seals: no drilling of the glass is needed. A stabilising bar then connects the top of the screen to the wall to stiffen it. These accessories are ordered with the screen, in the configurator.

What is a shower screen stabilising bar for?

The stabilising bar, or support bar, connects the top of the screen to the wall. It stops the screen from vibrating or flexing, which is essential for a fixed walk-in screen secured on one side only. It is cut to length on installation.

What are the maximum dimensions of a shower screen?

The shower glass is made up to 2900 mm high, which means it can run from the shower tray to the ceiling in most bathrooms.

How do I clean a shower screen?

Use a squeegee after every shower and a mild, non-abrasive product. Anti-limescale glass stays looking clean with very little effort; the care is the same for tinted or frosted glass.

Do you offer a complete fixed shower screen kit?

Yes: in the configurator, add the wall U-channel, the floor U-channel and the stabilising bar to the glass, in chrome, matt black or brushed stainless steel. You receive a complete fixed shower screen, ready to fit. For a shower with a door, our partner offers a complete shower screen kit.

How is the shower screen delivered?

Each panel is packed in packaging suited to its size and weight, then delivered anywhere in mainland France, ready to fit.

What standard does a toughened glass shower screen meet?

The glass is safety glass toughened to European standard EN 12150: around five times stronger than ordinary glass, it shatters into small, blunt fragments if it breaks.
