Frequently asked questions
How much does a glass worktop cost per m²?
The price depends on the thickness and finish chosen. For a 15 mm low-iron worktop, allow €588.80 per m² in black or white, and €625.40 per m² in other RAL colours. This price is for plain glass, per m², with no options: the final price will then depend on the cut-outs (sink, hob, notches) and finishes added to your worktop.
What thickness should I choose for a glass worktop?
Plakglass offers enamelled glass worktops in four thicknesses: 8, 10, 12 and 15 mm. For a standard kitchen worktop (with no particular heavy loads), 10 or 12 mm is the usual choice, with 12 mm giving a more substantial look and greater rigidity over long lengths. 8 mm is suitable for smaller surfaces or less demanding uses. 15 mm is reserved for set-ups requiring maximum strength, such as laboratory benches or very wide worktops.
Can an enamelled glass worktop be used outdoors?
Yes. The enamelling process, with the colour fired into the glass before toughening, makes the material resistant to UV, moisture and temperature differences. A garden table top, an outdoor kitchen worktop or an outdoor furniture top can therefore be made from toughened enamelled glass with no risk of the colour or the material deteriorating.
Is enamelled glass opaque?
Yes, enamelled glass is opaque. The layer of enamel applied before toughening hides whatever is underneath, unlike tinted glass which remains translucent. This is what makes it suitable for a worktop, where you do not want to see through the surface.
Can I match a glass worktop and splashback at Plakglass?
Yes, in fact this is one of the advantages of using the same workshop for both pieces. The enamelled glass worktop and the glass splashback share the RAL chart. Simply select the same colour reference in each configurator to get a consistent colour match between the two.
Why choose enamelled glass for a worktop?
Enamelled glass is coloured before toughening: the colour is fired into the glass, making it highly resistant to UV, moisture, temperature changes and the everyday use of a worktop. It is the right solution for kitchen worktops as well as garden tables or exposed benches.
Which standard does Plakglass enamelled glass meet?
Enamelled glass is toughened safety glass: the enamel is fired into the glass during thermal toughening, carried out to standard EN 12150. Toughened glass is around five times more impact-resistant than ordinary glass and, if it breaks, it shatters into small, blunt pieces.
