Plum, purple or pink back-painted glass splashbacks and cooker hood splashbacks

Plum, purple or pink splashback and purple cooker hood splashback
Aubergine, plum, lilac, crimson or powder pink: a plum or purple splashback is the hallmark of an original, sophisticated kitchen. Purple or pink back-painted glass is toughened glass painted on the back, so the colour stays deep and protected.
For a more restrained touch, a purple cooker hood splashback, or a plum one, behind the hob is enough to create the effect.

Purple or plum cooker hood splashback
A plum cooker hood splashback adds depth to a light-coloured kitchen and goes very well with a stainless steel cooker hood. In powder pink, it softens the cooking area. 6 mm toughened glass is suitable for all hob types; with gas, keep at least 10 cm between the flame and the glass.
Plum, purple or pink kitchen splashback
Plum and aubergine add a refined, warm touch that works beautifully with wood, brass or light grey unit fronts. Purple makes a contemporary, original statement, while powder pink or lilac soften the kitchen and go well with cream, sand and sage green tones.

Design your made-to-measure plum splashback
The splashback is made of toughened glass, which withstands the heat of hobs, with an anti-shatter film on the back of the paint. Choose the shape, dimensions and thickness of your kitchen splashback (6 mm behind a hob), position your sockets and holes, then choose the finish of the glass, gloss or matt, and clear or low-iron glass.

Frequently asked questions about plum, purple or pink splashbacks
Which shade of plum or purple should I choose?
Dark plums and aubergines, claret violet RAL 4004 or purple violet RAL 4007, make for an intimate, elegant kitchen. Mid purples, such as blue lilac RAL 4005, are more contemporary. For a soft atmosphere, choose antique pink RAL 3014 or a pale lilac.
What goes with a plum splashback?
Plum goes with light grey, off-white, wood and brass or copper finishes. Bright purple loves pure white and black. Powder pink combines with sage green and beige.
Do I need low-iron glass for pink back-painted glass?
Yes: the green tint of clear glass dulls pinks and lilacs and makes them look greyish. Low-iron glass keeps them fresh. For a dark plum or aubergine, clear glass is enough.
Is a purple cooker hood splashback suitable for gas?
Yes. 6 mm toughened glass withstands a temperature difference of around 200 °C, and the paint on the back is not exposed to the flame. Keep 10 to 15 cm between the burners and the purple cooker hood splashback.
Does the plum splashback meet a standard?
The base glass is toughened to standard EN 12150, which makes it a safety glass. Painted glass for indoor use falls under standard EN 16477; the film bonded to the back holds fragments together if the glass breaks.
Is plum difficult to match with the worktop?
No: a white, concrete grey or light wood worktop shows it off. Just avoid a red or orange worktop, which would compete with the plum splashback.
